Mulled wine, variations of which are popular in Europe, is wine, usually red, combined with spices and typically served warm. It is a traditional drink during winter, especially around Christmas and Halloween.
Nordic Gløgg or Glögg
Glögg is the term for mulled wine in the Nordic countries (sometimes misspelled as glog or glug); (in Swedish and Icelandic: Glögg, Norwegian and Danish: Gløgg, Estonian and Finnish: Glögi).
Non-alcoholic glögg can be bought ready-made or prepared with fruit juices instead of wine. The main classic ingredients are (usually) red wine, sugar, spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves and bitter orange, and optionally also stronger spirits such as vodka, akvavit or brandy.
In all Scandinavia glögg spice extract and ready-mixed spices can be purchased in grocery stores. In Sweden, ready-made wine glögg is normally sold at Systembolaget ready to heat and serve, and not in concentrate or extract form.
Glögg is generally served with raisins, blanched almonds and Ginger biscuits (Ginger Snaps), and is a popular hot drink during the Christmas season.
(sorry, minor delays due to Xmas holiday and lack of internet:)

Quote from Colin Moon's book, chapter "Rude food" at äRRä's candy calendaR:
"There is a spice called Kockens anis, cat food called Pussi and a chocolate bar called Plopp. Feel free to explain to your Swedish friends why these are really quite amusing to the Anglo-Saxon ear."
12 days to Christmas!

Plopp is a candy bar manufactured by the Swedish company Cloetta (formerly part of Cloetta Fazer). Like Center, another Cloetta candy, it consists of milk chocolate with a soft caramel center.
Over 95 percent of Plopp is sold in Sweden.
Some English-speaking sources have criticized the name "Plopp" as being unappealing. (*no kiddin'!*;)

BUT, editor's note: it did taste quite good!

Fruity fest in a Maynards way at äRRä's candy calendaR of the year 2011!
:)
11 days to Christmas!

(little background from Wikipedia)
Maynards is a sweets manufacturer in United Kingdom and Canada, and is most famous for its Wine Gums.
Charles Riley Maynard and his brother Tom started manufacturing sweets in 1880 in their kitchen in Stamford Hill, London. Next door, Charles's wife, Sarah Ann, ran a sweet shop selling their products. In 1896 the brothers formed the Maynards sweet company.
Ten years later, in 1906, the expanding concern moved a mile or so to a new factory in Vale Road, Harringay. The new factory site, below an embankment of The New River, permitted clean Hertfordshire spring water to be used in production, whilst the proximity of the Lee Navigation and numerous railways facilitated the easy, cheap shipping of the required coal, sugar, and gelatin.
London itself provided a ready market of some ten million people, and the world’s largest commercial port was within five miles.
